Further details:

Level 1 Officials Certification Process...

It is no longer necessary for new officials to take the Level 1 instruction from a referee. There is an online process for “self-certification” of new officials in the Level 1 postion (safety marshal, marshals and timekeepers).

Simply click on this link to http://www.swimofficials.ca/clinics/index.php and then they click on the link to the 2010 Level 1 Clinic (PPSX) in the top left of the page. This will take you through a PowerPoint presentation of the Level 1 Officials Clinic. At the end of the PowerPoint is a self administered questionnaire in which the correct answers will appear in red font as you work your way through it. If you do not understand the answers that are given you may page back through the PowerPoint presentation and review the sections you are unsure of. Don’t worry, this is one test you will not fail! It is simply a questionnaire to ensure you understanding of important aspects of officiating in the sport of swimming.

At the next meet you attend you may sign up on the official’s roster for any of the Level 1 positions; safety marshal, marshal or time keeper. At the Officials Briefing held before every swim meet you can let the referee know you are a new official. The referee can answer any questions you might have and will ensure you are placed under the guidance of a certified official for your first sessions. The referee or your swim club should have an “Officials Certificate Card” that they can issue to you which will help in tracking your progress as an official. At the end of the meet the referee will initial your card confirming that you have completed the Level 1 certification process. A red maple leaf SNC pin signifying your level of certification can be obtained from your Regional Rep once you have a signed card.

That’s it, your'e on your way! Welcome to the exciting world of swim officiating! After you have been a timer or marshal/safetymarshal at a few meets talk to your swim club executive about other officiating positions and they will help you in further development as an official. Other officating positions are instructed personally by a senior official in your area. Your club executive can help coordinate officiating clinics and let you know how you can become further involved in officiating.
